Soft tissue with blood vessels

Finally spoke to my GP about the lump they saw in the ultrasound scan, and he said they'd identified it as a soft tissue mass with a lot of blood vessels. He has referred me to soft tissue specialists, but I need to know in lamens terms - soft tissue mass with many blood vessels means a malignant sarcoma, yes?

I do wish medical personnel wouldn't beat about the bush so much, I'd be so much happier just knowing one way or another, even if it's bad news!  Please don't feel about saying yes, right now not knowing is so very much worse.

  • Hello LauraRose85 and thanks for posting,

I can understand you asking and wanting to know what is going on, but I'm afraid I don't know. I think you need to be wary about drawing any conclusions for now.

Unfortunately, a period of 'not knowing' is unavoidable until a diagnosis can be confirmed and sometimes more tests or a biopsy are needed to be sure what is the matter. So neither doctor nor patient knows.

I can appreciate that the 'not knowing' is unsettling at best and even stressful, try if you can not to anticipate while you are waiting for the specialist to give you a considered opinion.

Soft tissues masses often end up being benign tumours, which are much more common than sarcomas, but sarcoma may need to be ruled out.

I hope you find out more soon. Please give us a ring if you want to talk anything over. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open weekdays from 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • [@CRUK Nurse Julia]‍ thank you so much for taking the time to reply. Your words have been helpful and reassuring, everyone is right that the waiting is absolutely the worst part. Luckily I've now been referred to both the breast cancer and sarcoma specialists so with any luck answers are on the way. When you're a single parent with two autistic children your mind just automatically goes to the worst and you worry about what will happen to them... but I know I just need to relax and take each day as it comes!

Thank you again for taking the time to reply, it's so nice to be heard. Have a great day.
