Lump in breast

I'm 21F, I was lying in bed and every now and again I check my breasts for changes. I came across a small lump (probably smaller than a pea) and it worried me. No family history of breast cancer. I've been feeling it since yesterday but sometimes can't find it, it's tender only because I keep prodding the area. It feels smooth and slightly firm but not too hard, wondering if it could be a cyst or just a fatty growth. I feel similar areas on both breasts but I feel very anxious, I'd like to hear other opinions first before booking a GP appointment as I know how busy they are. When do you draw the line at considering something is normal and when to seek help? Thank you.

  • Hi,

    Hope you are doing ok!

Any breast lumps or changes however small are worth getting checked out. It may well be nothing to worry about but honestly don't feel bad about booking an appointment. Always better to be safe than sorry! Am sure no one would feel you are wasting their time.

Get on to your GP in the morning!

Wishing you all the best x

  • Hello, and thank you for posting.

We always suggest that anyone noticing new and persistent breast changes gets checked out by their GP. It is rare to have breast cancer at your age, as it is more common in older women (50+) and it would be rare to have cancer in both breasts at the same time with the same symptoms.

This said, we aren't in a position to be able to say if there definitely is or isn't anything the matter, so it is still good to be properly assessed by your doctor. So do give the GP a call and organise an appointment to get checked out.

I've placed here a link to some of the other things that can happen in the breast that aren't cancer.

Take care, and hopefully you will know more soon.

    Sarah.
