breast lump.

I was reffered to a breast clinic and had my appointment today (wed 17 Aug).  I found a pea size lump on my right outer breast 2 weeks ago. Dr reffered me to hospital breast clininc. The consultant felt the lump and i had a mammogram followed by a breast scan and saw the consultant who then sent me for a biopsy.  I went back to see the consultant and he wants me back next week and he said i may need a MRI scan. I aksed him if it was cancer and he said it could be or just a begnine lump.  I have the PMS@ Genetic cancer Gene with Linch syndrome.  what do you think will happen next. i am a straightforward person and told the consultant i would like the truth no matter what the outcome.

I have had a full hystorectomy in 2012 due to the cancer gene we carry, lost my sister to ovarian and bowel cancer at age 49, and another sister got through a cervical cancer.

  • Hello

It is hard to predict what will happen next.  It sounds like the consultant is telling you the truth, I don't think he would say it still might be benign unless he genuinely thought so.  Sometimes needle biopsies can be inconclusive so I suspect that they want to do the MRI to get a better image of the lump and following this they may want to do a further biopsy.  It is really difficult waiting to find out what the next steps are, but in situations like these its hard to predict exactly what will happen.  Try not to make too many assumptions until you next see the team and have the opportunity to talk things through with them once they have the results of the MRI and any further tests they may want to do.  If you explain to them that you are someone who likes to know everything they will explain things fully to you.

It is so hard waiting in situations like this.  I hope you get some answers soon
