Watch and wait - lymphoma

My husband Had went chemo for his Hodgkin lymphoma 3 years ago, unfortunately he relapsed within 12 months. But with only a small lump in his neck appearing, followed but a few more,no B symptoms though. (He never had B symptoms the first time and his cancer was stage 3 with a large lymph node approx 14cmx5cm.) he's had a few check ups since then for reassurance but he's been put on watch and wait as his consultant is happy his cancer is slow growing.

however, he's now Ill all the time! Currently having severe pain in his stomach which our gp is invistigaying, also suffering with headache (a severe migraine tonight resulting in vomiting). He just seems so unwell all the time, which is so unlike him pre-chemo. Could this be down to the 6 rounds of chemo? Or should we be seeing his constant to check? I don't know with watch and wait when you actually need to ring and when to just leave it play out,  as we understand he can be unwell just like a normal person. Anyone else on watch-and-wait? Or similar?

thansk for any help

  • Dear Mumofboys12 and thanks for posting.

I'm sorry to hear about the worrying time you and your husband are having.

Unfortunately, we cannot tell you what may be causing your husband's symptoms. There is no reason why he can't make contact with his original consultant or specialist nurse if he has one, one who manages his lymphoma care, and tell them about what is happening.  It would probably be a good idea to let them know.

It can be difficult for patients on watch and wait to know what to report and when.  But I am sure they won't mind hearing from him and especially as you say he is feeling so unwell.

His symptoms might not be related, but it makes sense to get them checked out, and report anything new just to be on the safe side.

I hope this is helpful, if you would like to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040.  The lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Rachel
