Maintenance treatment after 3rd round of chemotherapy

My relative is about to start weekly taxol( 3weeks on and 1 week off) but has been told there isn't a maintence treatment at the end of the chemo.

Originally had carbotaxol and then 17 cycles of avastin in 2016/17

2021 another surgery and then carbo caelyx which ended July 21

Jan 22 scan didn't show anything but a groin node was slightly enlarged

March 22 showed small area of disease

She was then on anastrazole

July 22 area of disese had grown, was told that the anastrazole wasn't working

Is it correct that there isn't a maintenance option after this? Or is it possible privately? She has had rubraca for a short time but had to stop due to symptoms

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

This is a very specific question related to your relative and is best answered by her doctors. Decisions about the best treatment for patients is based on many factors including the drugs that they have had before, the results of scans and also on national guidelines.

We are nurses and we have no doctors here to give a second opinion. Each patient is treated individually.

Her doctors may be waiting to see how she responds to the taxol treatment.

If your relative wants more information about her next steps then do get her to talk this through with her team.

If either of you want to talk to the helpline nurses about anything else then you are more then

welcome to give us a ring.

We are here from Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm, Freephone 0808 800 4040.

    All the Best,

    Catherine
