Duct excision

Hi, I'm due to have a total duct excision in 3 weeks time.  Can anyone who's had it please let me know how much it shows - are your breasts less full? Is it obvious without / also with a bra?

Thanks in advance for any replies. x

  • I had a breast reduction with my nhs surgeon to try to remove as much as possible of my ducts,  due to duct ectasia, during the procedure they removed 530 grams from one side and 510 grams  from the other, As l have had years of problems and surgery l was glad they were able to do this procedure, once healed my breasts have been better,  still the odd duct niggling,  but they said removing all of the ducts was difficult.
my breasts are smaller but more comfortable. With a bra no one's ever said anything l have big scars so without it's quite obvious but it's only my husband and my drs that see me, it's never been a problem.
    take care

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

Hopefully you might get some replies from other users, but this can vary.

Breast surgery uses plastic surgery techniques to minimise the amount of breast tissue removed, and also to reduce scarring, and provide a decent cosmetic result overall. As breast sizes do differ alot, the breast surgeon will adapt, according to each individual patient.

Your hospital breast team or breast care nurse should be able to inform you a bit more about this for you, if you contact them.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Yours sincerely,

    Vanda
