2 week Cancer referral

I was referred last Wednesday morning, and haven't heard anything to date. Is this normal? What happens if don't hear anything from them in the two weeks?
My anxiety is through the roof thinking have I got cancer or not, and I'm literally sat waiting for a call or letter everyday. How do they usually contact you?

  • I was referred on Tuesday this week and had a text with details to contact the hospital if I had not heard by today. I had a call this morning and my appointment is on Monday. If I was you I would chase it up just to put your mind at rest, good luck

  • Hello there and thanks for coming back to us

I'm sorry you are undergoing some tests and hoope you know more about your situation very soon.

The waiting and not knowing at times like this can be unsettling but I would suggest calling the hospital to find out whether an appointment has been made for you to see someone as yet.

People can be contacted in many different ways including letters, texts or by telephone and there is no way of knowing how you will hear.

Whilst the hospitals will try and make sure patients are seen or spoken to within 2 weeks for a suspected cancer pathway some people may need to wait longer. Do call the hospital or GP to find out more.

    All the best

    Naomi

  • Hello, sorry to hear you have needed to be referred. I know this is such a worrying time.

It took me one week and one day until I got a phone call to book an appointment for a procedure. Then I got a letter to confirm it.

The day before the procedure, I got another call to book a telephone consultation with a clinical nurse specialist. This appointment was booked for the day after the procedure.

But it's normal to be contacted any time between the 2 weeks. If you don't hear from them by the time the 2 weeks end, contact your GP.

    Hope all goes well.
