After Surgery

I had surgery to remove my right kidney as it contained a 9cm kidney tumour 8 weeks ago and today I'm experiencing really bad stabbing pains next to the scar it brought me to tear's.  Is this normal?

  • Hi and thanks for posting.

Its not unusual to have aches and pains as the body is healing, particularly after a big operation like that. Nerves can take a while to calm down as they get used to how things are now in the body, this can take several months, and often longer. Stabbing pains are generally related to nerve irritation.

Try not to over do lifting or strenuous quick movements, be mindful of how you sleep in bed as well, positioning wise.

I think that as we aren't part of the team who originally looked after you, it might be an idea to either speak to one of them, or your GP, to just update them on this.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda

  • I had a big gynaecology operation and it has taken ages to settle down especially when lifting anything like shopping or gardening. I was told to take it easy until it had healed we hope it's better sometimes as we want to get back to normal asap. 8 weeks is no time at all but tell your dr or surgeon. As it's a change in your condition.
    take care
