Telephone consultation with specialist

I have a telephone consultation with a colorectal specialist on Saturday morning (if I heard correctly). I'm not what to expect or what to do to prepare.

I've listed my symptoms and when they started.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

The telephone conversation from this doctor will be about you and your symptoms and the results of any tests your GP has asked you to have. So it is good to have your symptoms written down so you can easily recall them. This doctor will then decide if you need further tests or investigations , you should know if you do during this call.

I hope this has helped. Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • I spoke with my consultant on the phone it does save the trip to the hospital clinic. She took my symptoms looked at the mri and ultrasound scans and booked my surgery. Do write everything down or have someone listen to the call. It's easy to forget what's said.

    l hope all goes well

    susie

  • Thank you both.

The specialist was really kind and patient, I liked that I didn't feel rushed to explain everything. She asked about my symptoms, family history and lifestyle. It really helped that I had my symptoms written down because I've had so many so it's easy to forget them.

She then said she thinks I should have a colonoscopy and CT scan due to my symptoms. I did have a sigmoidoscopy yesterday so I didn't expect to be offered further investigations. They're going to have a meeting on Tuesday and will then confirm this.

I'm so grateful my symptoms are being taken seriously considering I'm in my 20s. I really didn't think they would.
