Advice please

I am in my 60's. I have had polyps removed three times but they kept coming back. At the beginning on 2020 I had some removed and was told they were cancerous and I would need a hysterectomy.
My gynaecologist said because of covid they were only doing emergency operations but I was top of the list when they restarted.
Two months later  I was taken into hospital with uncontrollable bleeding and given a full hysterectomy. It was not performed by my gynaecologist as she was not available.

The day after my operation the surgeon came to see me and said he was discharging me and my gynaecologist would be in touch with a post op appointment.

Four days after my operation I had a letter from the hospital saying all there clinics were cancelled due to covid and they had written to my gp and she would do my post op.

Five weeks after my operation I had heard nothing from my gp so I rang them and was told that it was to early for my post op and someone would ring me the following week. I waited two weeks and heard nothing, so I phoned my surgery and was told the doctors were not doing appointments due to covid. So I returned to work.

That was two years ago. Last November I had a text message from the surgery asking me to book an appointment for a blood test. So went to see the nurse and she said, what is this blood test for there is nothing on your notes. I said I didn't know I just had a text telling me to come. I have heard nothing since.
my problem is I have started having hot flushes and I can't sleep so am feeling really run down. Is this normal after two years? Should I be having regular check ups? I have been told nothing of what to expect, can someone give me some advice.

  • Hello and thanks for posting

I presume you were diagnosed with womb cancer. Surgery is usually the main treatment for early stage womb cancer. No further treatment is required if the cancer has not spread outside the womb. We have information on our website about this at this link.

Unfortunately because of Covid and the backlog it caused, hospital outpatient appointments were postponed for quite a long time.

In some hospitals they are trying out a new way of running their check ups. This system leaves it to the patient to take the lead in arranging to see their doctor or specialist nurse.

As you are now experiencing menopausal symptoms I think it would be a good idea to make an appointment to discuss your symptoms with your GP . In the meantime you can read more about how menopausal symptoms can be managed by clicking here

Give us a ring if you would like to talk anything over. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
