HPV positive, bleeding after intercourse

Hello,

I'm sorry if this has already been asked before but I'm new to here! I got a positive HPV result (with no abnormal cells found) from my latest smear test about a month ago. All has been ok up until the last week where I've been getting some pain on intercourse and spotting afterwards... Is this normal? Has anyone else experienced this? Should I get some advice from my GP / Practice Nurse? I don't want to take up and appointment if it's common!

Thank you for reading and I hope you're all well xxx

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

It can be a worry to notice new symptoms and whilst most will have a simple and straightforward reason for it, if it doesn't settle it should be checked out.

HPV doesn't cause symptoms so it is unlikely to be linked to this but spotting and pain after intercourse if often linked to vaginal dryness, infection or inflammation in the cervix.

AS you had a recent cervical screening you would have assumed if they had noticed anything unusual on examination they would have said but it worth speaking to your GP or practice nurse so they can assess you and run some tests if needed.

Try not to worry but do make an appointment if this continues.

    Best wishes

    Naomi
