Breast lump visible after biopsy

Hi

feeling very anxious waiting for biopsy results although copy of letter to GP says imaging indicates its malignant (M5/U5). I found a lump four weeks ago which is about 4cm, I have thickening of lymph node and US detected another suspicious area. All have been biopsied. I'm feeling twinges and slight pains in all sorts of places and try as I might I can't help thinking the cancer has spread.

tonight I noticed that the lump is bulging and visible on the surface of my breast. My appt to get the biopsy result should have been this Tuesday but I got a letter to say it's been put back a week to 9 August. No explanation. Another week of worry and fear.

Can anyone tell me if the bulging is normal swelling after a biopsy, even 10 days after? Or is it something I should get checked out immediately? I'm in my early 60s.

thanks.

  • Hello Amy321 and thank you for your post,

I can appreciate that this is a worrying time for you. Feeling twinges and slight pains may be just you being more aware of your body. After a biopsy of your breast lump it might cause some swelling for a while. If you are concerned it might be a good idea to get back to the breast clinic and tell them, to be on the safe side. Or you could show it to your GP.

Biopsy results can take 2-3 weeks to come back. Waiting for them can be difficult so I hope you have friends and family to support you.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
