Possible Ovarian Cancer

Hi everyone. I'm currently in limbo regarding diagnosis and hoping you guys that have experienced it can help.

I recently had blood tests and my CA-125 is super elevated. Like hugely. It's at over 3000. Does higher number make cancer more likely? I have two children and I'm so scared I'll miss them growing up

  • Hey Annie,

I'm unsure on the levels of the CA125 but ive read it can be wrong and does not always mean a person has cancer. Ive read posts stating where you are in your cycle can impact results and if youre perimenopausal.

I found thats the inetrnet can be good but also bad and scare you. May I ask what your symptoms are?

I'm also waiting on results and further investigations. I had  a Ca125 done in Jan 2021 which was normal. I Continued to have bloat symptoms and pain down my right side, so my GP ordered some investigations one of them being an Ultrasound. The day before my ultrasound they redone my Ca125 bloods and the day of my scan the Dr called and said they were over 100 and she was referring to for an urgent CT scan. This has sent my world upside done. I'm a mother to 6 children, I'm petrified! Completely understand how you're feeling. I can't seem to pull myself together.

I really hope you can find some clarity from your GP or hospital, just being given blood results by the Dr is not very helpful.

  • I just don't know if it being so high makes it more likely to be cancer. I only have minor symptoms such as spotting and a bit of discomfort when lying on my back. I am not bloated or similar and my appetite seems okay. I've been trying to tell myself it could be a cyst or similar, especially as I have PCOS since puberty, but I can't help thinking that I'm better assuming it IS cancer so that if I get the news I'm not bulldozed. I just wish I could get the scan over with and have more idea of what is going on

  • I really feel for you. Going through a health scare is so hard! Hopefully someone else with more information or a similar experience will reply with their story.

I've also been trying to get my head around being told I have cancer, but also telling myself I don't actually know anything yet.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are currently undergoing some tests and appreciate an abnormal result can be worrying.

The ca 125 can be raised with other inflammatory conditions as well as cancer including levels high in the thousands, however more tests are needed to find out what may be going on and to rule something more serious out.

Take things one step at a time for now and try not to over think things until you have all the facts. Whilst it can be good to share stories, everyone is different and what the outcome is for one person will often be different to someone else.

I hope you know more soon, in the meantime avoid googling things as others have said it isn't always that helpful and keep yourself busy with other things.

Wishing you all the best but you know where we are if you need to get back in touch. You are also welcome to call our helpline on 0808 800 4040, mon-fri 9-5.

    Take care
