CT colonoscopy

Hi sorry for bothering you. I've had right sided abdominal pain along with severe burning episodes that last hours for 5 months since the birth of my last baby.

Recently had a CT colonscopy as was referred on the 2 week pathway to check for bowel cancer as bowel habits have also changed.

Report for CT colonscopy said found small belly button hernia ,cyst on right overy and polyps in colon. Didn't say sizes or how many.

I'm terrified that I have bowel cancer and been told several things by different nurses/drs.

One said it won't be cancer as they was picked up on the CT scan and that would of shown if there was anything sinister going on and said possible colon cancer on the report and another one said it could be cancer still and will find out when they are removed via normal colonscopy.

I keep breaking down crying thinking I'm going to die and really don't understand what it means.

I'm guessing the CT would of shown if it was a progressed cancer or anything or if it had grown into the colon wall???

I'm in so so much pain and keel getting severe wind and constipated and have 2 little babies to care for and so scared of something happening to me to take me away from them.

The pain I get is cramping feelin down right side with added sharp stabbing pains and also wierd sensation of water drippi sometimes also get twitches in my colon a lot.

Been told could be ibs or could be large polys partially obstructed the colon hense the constipation and pain all the time but surely this would of also shown on the CT scan too possibly? X

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

There is a lot of logic in what you are asking, but I'm afraid I am not sure about the ins and outs of everything that can and can't be seen on a CT colonoscopy. However,  I do think there is reassurance to be had in the fact that the report only described polyps and nothing else was mentioned, so try and take this on board.

Bowel polyps aren't cancer but some bowel polyps go on to develop into cancer over time.  I suppose the last word about these polyps will probably have to come from a tissue examination after they have been removed, but I don't think you should be thinking the worst although I appreciate that having tests can trigger a lot of stress and worry.

I am not sure who you spoke to about the CT colonoscopy report, but it may help to go through it again with your doctor.

I hope you find out more about your situation soon and that things improve for you soon with the pain.
