What do testicular lumps feel like?

I've had a hard lump on my right testicle for a few months. It doesn't move, always in the same place and on occasions the testicle feels larger/swollen so not as noticeable. But when it's not swollen it's very prominent like a pen nib poking out is best way I can describe. Is that normal kind of lump or early sign of a cancer lump. I often check and it's definitely something new. I had some groin and lower back pain in the last six months too.

This past week also has been a concern as another two slightly smaller hard lumps above that one has appeared.

i am waiting on appointment but I'm worried as doctor couldn't feel it but i could with some pressure due to swelling. Either way he put me forward for ultra scan. Just worried it's going to go a miss.

  • Could be a number of things down there. Cysts, inflammation in the tubes etc. Lumps should always be checked out if they're new. Hard immobile lumps more so.

Ultrasounds are great for visualising the testicles, so don't worry on that front. It's also not beyond the realm of possibility that all the fidgeting around has caused the swelling.

  • Hello there

I am sorry to hear you can feel a lump in your testicles that is concerning you.

I'm afraid no one here can diagnose or say if this is anything to worry about or not. You have however have done the right thing by seeing your GP and an ultrasound is the best test to check if anything sinister is going on in this area.

Lumps in the testicles are commonly caused by cysts, knobbly veins or infection rather than cancer, so hopefully there is a simple and non serious reason for this.

I hope you have your appointment soon and everything will be okay for you.

    All the best

    Naomi
