Referral for GA hysteroscopy

I was referred under the 2 week referral after post meno bleed. Had transvaginal scan which showed thickened endometrial wall.  Phoned same day for hysteroscopy appointment following week.  I informed lady offering appointment that I would not be able to have procedure without GA as had it in past and for me it was horrendous...I still cry thinking about it now and had it in 2016.  Was informed I still had to see gynaecologist. Went to appointment saw the chair set up for the procedure. Straightaway explained I wasn't going to be having the procedure in the circumstances and why.  Gynaecologist took my history etc ...my mum had endometriosis and colo rectal cancer at 52 and I have other risk factors for endometrial cancer.  Throughout the appointment I felt I was being gaslit because I wasn't going through with the procedure as a walk in..,it was described as being like a smear test...yeah right...there would be a wait if I went the GA route.,,maybe I would reconsider.  I sat quietly and did not agree so the gynaecologist dismissed me to a nurse to calculate my bmi.  Almost 2 weeks since this appointment.  I have had an almost continuous pain in my side since the bleed three weeks ago, which I mentioned to the consultant. My question is how long it takes from the pink form referral until an appointment for the GA procedure. I'm in a fair bit of pain and obviously want to know the reason for my symptoms.

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation.

I am afraid we do not know how long it will take to get the hysteroscope done.  To find out it might help to contact the gynaecologist 's secretary via the hospital switchboard. It's possible she will know more about this.

If while you are waiting to get this done your symptoms do get worse and you are worried then do speak with your GP.

I hope you know more soon.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
