Eye test turned emergency app & MRI… advice

Hello,

I'm feeling very anxious and not sure how to feel about my current situation

I've been feeling off recently, headaches everyday, worse in the morning or if I lie flat, a bit of nausea/ in the night vomiting, dizzy spells, sometimes disorientated or like I can see doubke

Told recently my folic acid levels are low so have been put on those, not much improvement

book an eye test.... after the first bit with the balloon I am told I will be sent on an emergency to the hospital. My OPTIC DISCS are blurry- both.

get to the hospital, loads of tests. Mentions something about my left eye dilation. Says my nerves are pronounced.. I now have a referral for an MRI within 'less than 4 weeks' and an app. Told if my symptoms were worse they'd have admitted me and to come back ASAP if they do

something mentioned about something, fluid, mass etc could be on my brain pushing on my optic

should I be worried?!?

  • Hello JR117 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn what has been happening and can understand why you are feeling unsettled and anxious. I think, being sent to hospital as an emergency along with the 'not knowing' would inevitably play on your mind and be worrisome.

It sounds like the doctors need the MRI scan to get a fuller picture. There are likely to be a number of possible explanations, and in many situations with unexplained symptoms, the doctors need to rule things out including cancer to decide what is the matter. For now it is probably a question of holding your nerve until the doctors have all the information they need to be able to tell you what they think is going on.  I think anything esle would just be guesswork.

A lot of people waiting to get a diagnosis turn to the internet to look for more information. We generally advise against it because mostly it takes you around in circles without being much the wiser.

I hope you hear about the MRI scan soon and don't have too long to wait before the doctors can give you some answers.

Do call us if you want to talk anything over. Our numbers Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here from 9-5, weekdays.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Hello Julia

Thank you for much for your reply, I appreciate the time!

I have stopped the Googling as that just made me feel worse so hopefully an MRI is soon.

Thank you for the helpline, if it's the worse I will definitely use it

    Many Thanks
