Lump in other breast

I am due my 4th lumpectomy op on my left breast next week. I think I have just found a lump in my right breast. It was clear in mammogram scans in Feb when I went in for my left one. What would you suggest I do? Wait until next week and speak to nurse/surgeon then? Call my doctor's surgery? I might just be being paranoid. Not sure what to do. This whole thing has melted my brain!

  • Hi Clarky,

Sorry to hear you are having a fourth lumpectomy and that you have now found another lump.

If it were me, I would call the breast clinic now! Perhaps they might be able to see you before your next op to check it out.

    Best of luck :-)

  • Hello Clarky 15 and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you are due to have more surgery next week and can understand that finding this new lump has sent your head spinning.

I think if you have a breast care nurse at the hospital, it makes sense to try and contact them for their advice - you might have to leave them a message and they will get back to you, but don't let this put you off.  You could contact the GP but I don't know how long it would take for you to get an appointment. I think first of all it would be a good idea to try and talk to the hospital team whose care you are already under.

This new lump needs to be assessed, but remember it could turn out to be nothing to worry about. As you know, some sort of imaging (mammogram or ultrasound) is often involved in assessing breast lumps and this usually happens at the breast clinics. So although they would be able to do a clinical examination next week when your lumpectomy is scheduled,  I am not sure how easy it would be for them to arrange any imaging then depending on the examination.

I think the best thing to do for now is to contact the breast nurse, but if they don't get back to you, try and speak with the GP.

I hope you can get this sorted out easily. Do give us a call if you want to talk anything over. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around weekdays, 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Thank you for replying. Have left a message for my cancer nurse. Hopefully she'll call me back in the morning. Thought I was being paranoid but got my husband to have a feel and he could feel it too.

  • Thank you. I have left a message for my C nurse.
