Confused

Hello,

I need some advice please, I've had a BCC removed from my shoulder and waiting results for a biopsy on my face which could also be BCC, but my worry is that when my dermatologist checked my body she found 3 moles, that she said could turn to melanoma and to check them every three months. If she thinks they could be, why not remove them? I don't understand that. Does anyone have an answer please. Thank you.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

It is difficult to know what the doctors thinking was but she sounded quite certain that the three moles at the moment were not suspicious and they may never turn in to cancer but it is important to carry on monitoring them.

She may have written a follow up letter to your GP which may give more of an explanation as to why she decided not to remove your moles.

I can appreciate that keeping an eye on moles can be tricky. It may be helpful to take a photograph of them now which will help you monitor if there are any changes.

Have a look at the ABCDE guide to looking at moles written by the Skin Foundation here

The NHS also has a mole assessment tool here
