Unilateral polyp .. now petrified

went to see the GP about inflammation of the inner part of  nostril. On examination she said she could see a unilateral polyp. So she prescribed a nasal steroid to help reduce it and referred me for urgent referral which going to be next week.

so I am a nervous wreck that can't eat or sleep.

It is on the same side that I have had an infected top incisor tooth, which has now got a failed root canal filling which is still insitu and has caused sinus problems for years. I try to keep that in my mind that is the cause of the problem. But I am expecting the worst.

  • Hello Susy22 and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation and I can appreciate your concern.

Being referred to see a specialist doctor can be worrying but also can be reassuring. Remember that most people referred for an urgent referral will not be told they have cancer. However, going to see the specialist will mean you have a diagnosis and get treatment if it is needed.

In the meantime, if you can, try to keep your mind of this by being busy doing something else.

You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
