LLETZ Results

Hi

hope you are all ok :)

So I went for a smear earlier in the year which found HPV with abnormalities.

Went for a colposcopy to investigate and she took a biopsy.

Biopsy revealed Cin1, Cin2 and Cin3 so they swiftly brought me in for a LLETZ. The LLETZ was about 6 weeks ago. I'm just getting back to normal, emotionally and physically.

My understanding is that I'm waiting for a letter to tell me that the LLETZ has been successful or not but yesterday I got a call from the hospital asking me to come for a consultation next Wednesday. The receptionist couldn't tell me anymore other than that.

Now, I am a fairly anxious person. I do tend to think the worst but ...... they aren't going to drag me in to the hospital to tell me 'great news, you are all set and healed' ... are they!? ... I'm freaking out. I feel like I'm waiting until Wednesday to be told I've got cancer. Which is really frustrating.

I've honestly never felt so in the dark. The whole process so far has been pretty traumatic. All nurses and doctors involved have been really friendly but it seems like the procedures in place are just not quite good enough at keeping the patient informed.

I'm probably going to call the hospital today to see if I can get more information but I guess it makes no difference really.

Anyway, anyone had similar..... called in for consultation after LLETZ rather than being sent a letter? Or can anyone shed some light on what I might expect?

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your situation and I can appreciate the worry it is causing you.

Remember that the biopsy showed CIN and not cancer. You might be being asked to go back because the margins of what was removed were not clear, which could indicate that not all of the abnormal area was removed and you may need to have further treatment.  Of course this may not be why you are asked to go back but it is a possible scenario.

I realise that this is a worrying time, but please do not assume you have cancer.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • Hello,

Thank you, this is really helpful. I guess I would assume that if the margins were not clear, I might expect that a letter would be written to explain this outcome and request a consultation to discuss this further. I just feel so in the dark. They know what the results are but they want me to wait nearly a week.

I guess at the end of the day it boils down to the fact that this is a fairly stressful situation and I'm probably blaming procedures to make myself feel better.

anyway I will probably call the number you have recommended thank you!
