Periods

Hi, I started chemotherapy in March 2011 aged 41 and had my last period in April 2011. I started on tamoxifen in November 2011 and finished  in November 2021. I am 52 and have just started what I think is a period. Is this normal for periods to start again at age 52? I presumed I had gone through the change while on tamoxifen as the symptoms are similar. Any advice welcome. Thanks

  • Hello Tquill and thanks for posting,

Periods can restart after chemotherapy and tamoxifen, but the older you are the less likely this is to happen. Generally the advice is to let your doctor know about bleeding that is out of the ordinary, so I think it would be sensible to tell your GP - they can make an assessment and check you out.

I hope you can get a GP appointment easily to get this sorted out,

    Best wishes,

    Julia
