Lump on ultra sound not on ct scan

Hi, I'm really worried and confused, a 3cm mass was identified on my pancreas under ultrasound, I was sent for a ct scan with contrast and my doctor has had a look at the scan which indicates everything is normal. Why would the mass not show on the ct scan. The doctor has said this is great news (he could not say why the lump did not show) and I am in the clear, but I am worried sick now. I am waiting to hear from the consultants, but there is a back log at the hospital, can you offer any words of wisdom?

  • Hi HolyMoly1234,

Thank you so much for getting in touch and I'm sorry to hear you are having such a worrying time.

Ultrasound scans and Ct scans are both tools used to look inside your body to find out what may be causing your symptoms.

I'm afraid I can't say why the mass was seen on one scan and not on the the other.  A radiologist will always look closely over scans before you get the results.  If they see anything that concerns them they will order more tests. Your consultant will be able to give you more information when you speak to them.

Waiting for results and to speak to a consultant can make people feel very anxious, finding things to distract yourself, such as activities you normally enjoy can help pass the time.

If you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline please do give us a call.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Best wishes

    Rachel
