Seeking suoport

Hi everyone,

I'm 25 years old male

I have been torturing myself using Dr Google and have seen so many scary illnesses and now I am concerned about some recent test results. I am frightened about cancer.

Two weeks ago I had a calprotectin level of 190, should I be worried about this?

Doctor did 4  blood tests on different days(all normal). As well as 3 urine tests (all normal). And a Fit kit (Normal results).

Doctor seems to think it may be Chrones, IBD or something similar.

My stool is sometimes loose and sometimes well formed never specifically seen blood. Sometimes I have an itchy backside after I pass stool. I wake up with sore joints and fatigue.

I have diagnosed and being treated for anxiety/depression. Currently buying a home and juggling work and mental health.

Any support work be amazing as I hate to keep leaning on friends and family.

Hope you are all okay.

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

It does sound like the doctors are doing all the necessary tests to work out what is going on.

Cancer at your age is unlikely and if the doctors think it may be Crohn's this is a far more likely explanation. Try not to focus on the different results as one result such as calprotecten on it's own does not mean anything.

Google really does not lead to you diagnosing yourself so do stay away from it as it is so general and can cause more anxiety.

Worrying and focusing  on  our health can be exhausting so try not to dwell on it all too much if you possibly can.

I am not sure whether you have talked to the GP about how it is making you all feel but do share this with them.

You may want to look at this link on the NHS website which has information on talking therapies and counselling and how to go about getting help here

If you haven't come across the NHS website  called 'Every Mind Matters' you may want to look at that too.

    Have a look here

It is good that you are able to share how you are feeling with your friends and family and sometimes a combination of some support with some counselling and your friends may help over the next few weeks.

You also sound like you have a lot on your plate with buying a home and work.  You may find it helpful to also talk to HR at work with a view to taking some time off whilst all this is going on.

I wish you all the best and I do hope that in the coming weeks you will feel a bit better in yourself.

    Best Wishes,

    Catherine
