MRI

I had an MRI of my ear 5 weeks ago and still no results.  I keep thinking nothing could have been found to leave it this long? Wadte of time phoning as noone answers and have left messages with Consultants' Secretary but remain unanswered. How long have others waited?

  • Hi, I'm sorry you are waiting. It's the worst part isn't it?!!

I actually waited around 6 weeks after my first biopsy to then be told I needed a cone biopsy which then only took 2 weeks. I've had scan results take 3 weeks and also 3 days! I have realcently had an mri which was 12 days ago and still no news

I know it's easier said than done but just keep calling them.
I was on first name terms when I was ringing daily for my results last Christmas. The receptionist/Secutary was only 1 lady. Needed breaks and also worked 4 days a week (sometimes sick too they are only human) . That and the back log I am sure they are pressured. I'm not saying they have forgotten you but it's easy to be bogged down by work load.

another aspect might be that the results have gone back to your GP? have you tried calling them?

a lot of the time they ring on unknown numbers so make sure you are answering your phone or you will miss them.

  • Thanks for your reply Rainbow91.  It is hard waiting. I have already checked with GP practice and they say the hospital will contact me directly.

I'm going to start phoning. Tried once already and just keeps ringing then cuts off ️.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

Waiting to get scan results is often a worrying time and lots of people contact us to ask how long they will have to wait.

Our understanding is that scan waiting times in the NHS can vary depending on the workload and staffing in these hospital departments. There is also an NHS backlog causing delays because of Covid in processing results, so this is not unusual at the moment to wait a few weeks.

If you don't hear anything by next week, then do ask your GP to enquire, or keep trying to ring the specialist/consultant secretary.

I hope everything goes well for you.

    Kind regards,

    Celene
