Worried about deterioration, GBM Stage 4

Hi everyone,

My lovely mother-in-law (64) was diagnosed with a Stage 4 GBM in February and since then, has undergone a debulking surgery and three weeks of chemo/radiation.

In the fortnight following treatment, she's become exceptionally weak on her feet and we're unsure whether this is a result of the treatment or just the progression of the tumour. Her speech/language/confusion also seems to have deteriorated rapidly in the past fortnight too.

It's just so hard to know if this is the tumour deterioration or simply side effects from treatment that might lift?

Thanks x

  • Hello and thanks for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your mother in laws condition, and can appreciate your concern.

Unfortunately, we cannot tell you exactly what is going on. It could be due to treatment side effects, or something else, such as an infection.

It would be sensible to make contact with her hospital team promptly and let them know how she is. You can also call her GP and ask for a home visit to assess her.

I hope that you get to find out more soon,

    Kind regards,

    Vanda
