Surpraclavicluar Lymph node

Iv got a slightly swollen lymph node which I think it Surpraclavicluar, it's not visible and I can only feel it when I press and feel for it, it feels about the tip of 2 fingers and doesn't feel round it feels more oval shape, it does pulse which worries me as Google always says the worst especially about Surpraclavicluar nodes being swollen and pulsing, Iv got no symptoms and constantly feel for it which could be why it's swollen but I'm still very worried, Iv got an appointment for 3 weeks time but I'm scared my doctor is going to brush it off! I do have very bad health anxiety after having a baby

  • Hello Abi_95 and thanks for posting,

I'm afraid no one here on Cancer Chat can tell you if there is anything the matter so I am glad to learn that you have made an appointment to see your doctor.

I think it is rather tricky for us to assess our own lymph nodes whereas doctors do this all the time so are in a better place to decide what feels out of the ordinary. I expect your doctor will want to examine you to find out what this node feels like and how big it is, but they might not be concerned about it.  It is ok to ask questions when you go and often a good idea to be frank about what is worrying you.

I think you often can feel pulsating in the area above your collarbone (supraclavicular) so this might not be coming from the node itself, but from blood vessels nearby, and lymph nodes are usually oval in shape.

Try not to dwell on the node and resist the temptation to keep on touching it (easier said than done I know). Our usual advice to anyone with a healthy worry is to try and stay off Google as it can take you round in circles without being any the wiser and most probably make you fret more. Distracting yourself as much as you can and staying busy is worth a go.

As you mentioned having health anxiety it might help to look at Anxiety UK's website and the NHS Every Mind Matters website

    Wishing you the best,

    Julia
