FIT Test >400 but can anyone help with faecal calprotectin

Hello my FIT Test came back at greater than 400 and I also had a faecal calprotectin test which I was told is 191  I don't understand how the levels on this calprotectin Test work and if I should be concerned by it

Many thanks

  • Thank you.

I did speak to my GP she seemed like i was just wasting her time she said your FIT score is 10 so im sending you on a two week rule and that was pretty much that she didnt even want to do any investigations but i asked.

Does any one know the signifcance with a postive FIT test and raised faecal calprotectin level

  • Hello there and thanks for getting back in touch

A fit test is able to detect microscopic blood in the stools, however blood can be caused by many different bowel conditions not only cancer but often needs further tests to figure out more about where this blood may be coming from.

Faecal Calprotectin levels measures inflammation in the bowels and helps doctors to decide what other investigations are needed to find the cause.

Blood and inflammation in the bowels can be caused by many different inflammatory bowel conditions as well as cancer but it is only further assessment and something like a colonoscopy ( camera looking in the bowel) that will give precise information.

Your GP has done the right thing in referring you on to a specialist team and hopefully you will know more soon.

Try not to over think things until you know what is going on in your situation,

    Best wishes

    Naomi
