Hi I hope you are okay.
I had a FIT test that came back at greater than 400ug/g aswell. My doctor said that the test looks for blood in poo and the higher the result, the more blood found. She said it doesn't mean it will be something serious but I will have further tests to find out the cause of the bleeding.
As your faecal calprotectin test is between 50-250ug/g, it is an indeterminate result for GI inflammation. If it was over 250ug/g, it would be an indicative result of active GI inflammation.
They should ask you to send another faecal sample in 4-6 weeks. If it's still over 50ug/g, they may refer you to a gastroenterologist. If they don't get back to you, you may want to call and ask them about this.
Also let them know if you have any new symptoms or if they persist.
I hope everything turns out okay. xx
Thank you for your reply, I am going in next Sunday for a colonoscopy, I was thinking I may have colitis but I'm not so sure now. I have every bad symptom listed as warning signs but I just wasn't sure what the calprotectin test results meant so thank you for answering my question xx
Hi there Sboo79
I am sorry to hear you are having some symptoms and are undergoing some tests at the moment.
It seems amelia98 has jumped on and given you a good answer about the calprotectin test already but you may also like to read about it more here.
Hopefully you will know more about your situation soon but do remember there could be another reason for you symptoms other than cancer and a colonoscopy can also diagnose other inflammatory bowel conditions.
Wishing you all the best
Naomi
HI Hope your well
what was the outcome ?
Hello
I have been diagnosed with Ulcerated colitis.
I hope you are well too x
Hi , im worried sick
What where your symptoms ? I have only vauge ones really , costipation on and off with pensil thin stools and vague abdo pain
I'm sorry you are going through this but it really can be a number of things you may have.
My symptoms, I had constipation on and off to start with, and then as I got worse nothing but liquid stool was coming out of me, I would go to the loo almost right away after eating, it slowly got worse and mucus and blood would be present, and right before I when to the GP I was passing alot of blood. I had alot of tummy pain but also pain in my rib area, gassy, and I was the most tired I had ever been in my life, I also suffered with a severe rash all over my body but its not very often others get the rash, I lose about a stone in weight over a 2 week period.
I really thought the worse at the time.
I would say try not to worry too much but as I know from not so long ago it won't help.
There are many other things that can cause your symptoms xx
Thank you
I have been suffering with left sided upper abdo pain for the past year a cause cannot be found, dispite having a CT scan.
I feel well in myself and keep beeing told that my FIT test was so very borderline and infact some areas would not even refer, would you be reasured about the low number ?
Yes I get alot of pain on my left side because the inflamation in my colon is on the left.
A low number is good, mi e was very high which I dicates blood in the stool.
I am not a medical person and I am still only learning about my new bowel disease, so my best advice would be to chat to the nurse on here although you will only get 100% results after your appointment.
I chatted to people on this site when I was at the not knowing stage but it might be a good idea to visit other sites like chrones colitis UK and have a read up on there, they also have a Facebook chat group too.
But if you need a chat or you have more questions im happy to help where I can, I know what an isolated feeling it is while waiting xx
Hi Lizzabee and thanks for posting.
Faecal immunohistochemistry tests (FITs) are usually looking for hidden blood in poo that no one knows about rather than obvious bleeding. Bleeding can occur for several reasons and can have nothing to do with cancer as SBoo79 says.
With FIT, there are different normal thresholds depending on whether the test is done in people who are experiencing symptoms or in healthy people who aren't (screening). If the GP asks for a FIT, the result is taken into account to decide if anything else needs to be done, for example a colonoscopy, and perhaps other things such as blood test results and any symptoms that are persisting.
You have had some excellent advice from SBoo79, and as she says you can post a question to us on here, or please give us a call to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline. The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
Take care
Sarah.
