Red patches on bladder

have just been for my first 6 month cystoscopy and they saw 2 red patches in my bladdet .

They have given me Trimethoprim  to take for a week and I will go back in two weeks to see if they are gone ....if not they 3ill do a gigud cystoscopy to take a biopsy !!! Anyone else experienced this ?

So stressed  !!

  • Hello REDB and thanks for posting,

I assume your next cystoscopy in 2 weeks time to see whether or not these red patches go away will be a flexible one. Biopsies can be taken during a flexible cystoscopy, so if any are needed,  it might be possible to have some taken at the time. But I suppose it depends on the situation and your specialist team may decide it is better to call you back to have a rigid cystoscopy under general anaesthetic.

Waiting for tests is inevitability nerve-racking. Do your best to manage the stress and keep an open mind for now,

Feel free to give us a call if you want to talk anything over.  Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are around from 9-5 weekdays,

    Wishing you the best,

  • Thank you so much for your reply ..I think the plan is to do a flexible cystoscopy in 2 weeks and then if need be go back  for a rigid and biopsy...I'm so stressed !! But trying to stay positive

I had surgery, chemo and radio therapy for bladder cancer 4 years ago.  I have read patches on wall of my bladder which show up on my 6 monthly flexi cystoscopy.  The biopsied them first time and they were clear it is something called radiation proctopathy which is basically scarring or tissue damage from the radio therapy - good news you are getting checked.  F

    Good luck SMJ

Yes I'm fine now 4 yrs on.  Only side effect is increased urgency and frequency which is only say a 5% inconvenience  and does not badly affect my life.  I had stage 3.0 so I'm lucky and fortunate to have had very good prompt treatment.  Fingers crossed.
