Ultrasound results - Possible ovarian cancer

Hey everyone... so I started with symptoms about a year ago but fobbed them off as a UTI (constant need to pee) or change in diet etc... Then I had a little spotting and pain after sex. I started to feel sick after every meal and have started with heartburn. I noticed this lump that has gotten quite big now in my lower right and constant pelvic pain. I saw my GP who told me my cervix was inflamed too. Long story short, I've been referred to gynie, although haven't actually spoken to the consultant yet. I had an ultrasound 2 days ago and the technician was really rude and abrupt. I'd asked when I'd get the results, either way and from whom... she just told me she'd send the report off. Obviously this feels like forever... does anyone know the usual timescale on this... either way - if there's something there or not?

  • I had an ultrasound on a Saturday a month ago and my GP called me with results the following Wednesday, so you shouldn't wait too long. I needed a CT for further investigation and just had phone call this afternoon. Being referred to gynae now as my uterus very inflammed and GP mentioned fibroid. I hope you hear soon x

  • Hello

It is difficult waiting for the results of tests so I can appreciate how concerned you are at the moment.  Like said, usually reporting happens fairly quickly generally within a week so you shouldn't have to wait too long.  How quickly you get seen by the specialist will depend on what the scan results show and whether or not you were referred by your GP on the urgent referral pathway.  So if the specialist sees something concerning on the ultrasound they would generally bring you in quite quickly or if your GP referred you on the urgent referral pathway then usually things move pretty quickly too.

I hope you get some answers soon, but at this stage try and keep at the back of your mind that there can be lots of different explanations for the symptoms you have so it could quite easily not be cancer.  Only 1 person in 10 referred on the urgent referral pathway gets diagnosed with cancer.

    I hope that is helpful
