Thickening of the womb advice pls

Hi I was seen under the 2 week wait as been having changed down below yesterday. Was confirmed as having lichen sclerosis. When I had a scan they said my lining was 19mm and they took a biopsy at the appt, ouch is all I'm saying lol. I was also fitted with a coil as he thought it is the start of endometriosis. I was also seen last year and my lining was 9mm at the same time of my cycle day 8 so the lining has definitely thickened., also had a punch biopsy which showed chronic inflammation On the camera and this appointment  it showed a Polyp in my left side as I always get pain there after my period. He is going to review me in the vulva clinic in 3 mths time to see if the creams are working. My question is, is it normal at 19mm and is this why they did the biopsy as to be honest I just went with the flow lol. I'm 41 so wasn't sure if it's age related  I'm now 4 days after the biopsy and still getting pain in my left side where the polyp is I'm guessing this is down to investigations on Monday

many thanks in advance xx

  • Hello and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear that you had some tests done and I can appreciate your concern.

From what I understand a womb lining measurement of 19 mm is slightly more thickened than average. Having a thickened womb lining does not mean you necessarily have cancer. The biopsy is to see what is causing the thickening , for the majority it will not be due to cancer but could be due to a condition called Endometrial Hyperplasia which is a non cancerous (benign) condition where the lining of the womb becomes thicker.

You are right your pain might be related to the investigation and biopsy you had.

I hope you know the results of your biopsy soon and get back to us if you need any more information. You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
