2 week urgent gynaecologist referral

Hi

I recently went for a ultrasound as I was having a lot of issues with period back pain etc and it's come back with a large mass on ovary I have been sent for CA125 bloods today and just waiting for hospital to ring with my appointment I am so scared it could be ovarian cancer can I ask what happens at gynaecologist appointment do they do more scans or just talk you through results etc

thank you

  • Hello and thank you for posting.

I'm sorry you are going through all this worry. It is difficult when awaiting appointments and test results.

At the gynaecological appointment I would expect them to go through their findings so far, discuss any other tests they might want to do and what happens from here. At the moment do remember nobody has told you you have cancer, other things like large cysts are common, but I understand your concern.

Try if you can to keep yourself busy until the appointment, that may at least distract your mind enough to help time pass.

Take care, and if you want to talk any of this through you can give us a call on Freephone 0808 800 4040, from 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Thank you for replying

I have had my trip to hospital and it's a germ cell tumour I am now waiting for results back on blood tests they have sent me for everything by the looks of it so it's just a waiting game now to see what's next I just keep trying to keep myself busy at all times

  • Hello Hetty, and thank you for updating us.

I've placed here some information on germ cells which may be useful if you haven't seen it already.

Take care, keep busy, and if you need to call us to talk thing through anything you know where we are, Freephone 0808 800 4040, 9am till 5pm, Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Thank you

I have now just received a hospital letter from gynaecologist for minor op but nobody has explained what's going on.Is this a meeting to discuss a biopsy I'm really confused right now

    thank you

  • Hello there

Good to hear you have heard from the hospital but understand you must still feel a little in the dark about your situation. Do give the hospital a call and ask if someone can tell you more or speak to your GP, who may also be able to gather more info for you.

From what you say it seems this is a germ cell ovarian cyst that needs to be removed. As you will see on the link my colleague Sarah gave you here most germ cell tumours will be benign which means it isn't cancer. However until they have removed it and it has been biopsied (examined under a microscope) no one really can tell you much more I don't think.

I hope this helps but please get back if you need to.

    Take care

    Naomi
