Eye melanoma

My hubby has been to optician's for an eye test. They wouldn't take payment and sent him for an emergency appointment to get eye looked at in hospital. After 3-4hours of pictures and scans and being seen by a consultant we was told he looks like he has a melanoma behind his left eye. They have referred him now to a specialist who has since viewed images and scans and said they grading as routine? What does this mean? It's not melanoma or not a bad melanoma or it's not worth a speedy appointment. Feeling quite sad and upset and don't know what to think about it all... anyone been told it's routine??

  • Hello

Thanks for posting a question for us.  I am really sorry but I don't know what they mean by that either.  Routine isn't usually a word that is used to describe melanoma.  I think the best thing to do is for you or your husband to contact the specialist to ask for an explanation, or speak to your GP or the optician that referred your husband and see if they can explain it.  I would have expected the specialist would have written to your husband's GP following reviewing his case so they may be able to shed some light on it.  I am sorry I can't be of any more help.  I wonder if it might help to give our nurses a call on our helpline to talk through exactly what your husband was told and see if we can help you work out what the specialist meant.  The number to call is 0808 800 4040 and we are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday

    Take care

    Martin
