Complex ovarian cyst

Hi. I have been diagnosed with a large complex ovarian cyst approx 15cm x 11cm.  There is an internal septae with a solid mass.

My ca125 came back at 29 and after the ultrasound scan, was told that although there was a possibility of cancer, the consultant thought it probably wasn't.  She sent me for a CT scan and said MDT would decide if it was benign or malignant but she expected it was benign.

I received a call yesterday telling me that I have been fasttracked for surgery on 2ww and my case is intermediate to high risk of cancer.  No new information came from CT scan and cyst hasn't grown so I am confused as to why it is has gone from feeling so positive to almost being told I definitely have cancer.

Anyone else had similar experiences

  • Hello there Cher2305 and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear you are needing urgent surgery for this cyst and appreciate this must be a worry for you.

Unfortunately until they remove the cyst there is no way of knowing for sure if this is definitely cancer but if there are features seen on the scans that are suspicious they will be wanting to carry out the surgery sooner rather than later.

As difficult as this must be, try not to over think things until you have all the information. There is still a good chance that this isn't cancer, and in the case that it were, hopefully it has been caught an an early stage where it can be removed and successfully treated.

I wish you all the best and do get back if you have more questions. You are also welcome to call the nurses on the helpline on 0808 800 4040 Monday-Friday 9-5.

    Take care

    Naomi

  • I had bilateral complex ovarian cysts they were removed by the oncologist and had extensive adhesions surgery took 4 1/2 hours, l was worried as they can be precancerous. They took multiple biopsies which fortunately were benign

l hope you have a similar experience and they are benign.
