Raised CA125

Hello, I suffered a very traumatic 12 week miscarriage 10 days ago, upon a scan it was discovered I had an 11cm cyst, the doctors were happy to monitor for 4 months and then go back for test but did bloods anyway. My CA125 levels came back at 240 and I have had them repeated today (1 week on) to see if any changes. Everything just seems to be happening at once, I'm 25 with a 2 year old and desperate for another baby and this is just my worst nightmare. Just looking for some advice really and reassurance

  • Hello Jolilly10 and thank you for your post,

I am very sorry to hear about the miscarriage you had and the concern for this cyst, it must be a difficult time for you.

Although CA125 levels can be raised in ovarian cancer it can also be high for other reasons.  It measures inflammation in the pelvic area and while it can sometimes mean that there is ovarian cancer, it can also be high because of other problems going on in that part of the body.

Hold tight now, be reassured that you are under the care of the gynaecology team. Try not to presume you have cancer because at your age this type of cancer would be unusual.  Do your best to keep busy and take your mind of this worry.

You would be welcome to get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
