Hi, my mate had aggressive lung cancer about 1 year ago. He has had the all clear last check up a few days ago. My question is can he have a few pints with us or should he not drink even in moderation. Thanks.
I don't think there has been enough research to know if drinking alcohol after treatment for lung cancer could increase the risk of it coming back. But the general NHS advice is to drink alcohol in moderation only which would mean the occasional couple of pints is ok. However, people often decide to modify their lifestyle after cancer treatment to stay as healthy as possible and some may chose to give up alcohol altogether.
I suppose it is up to your mate to decide if he is comfortable with having a pint or two. If he is uneasy about it he can always ask his specialist team- perhaps the lung nurse, assuming he has one.
