A bit fed up now

Good morning,

I was diagnosed with invasive ductal carcinoma  back at the beginning of March, had the horrible thing surgically removed, healing had been going well and now it feels like I'm back to square one with pain, and where the lymph nodes were removed is very painful. I start radiotherapy on Monday (tomorrow ) which I shall mention to them about the problems, but can anyone tell me if this is normal or not please? I feel like I'm going crazy, I can't sleep for love or money due to being so uncomfortable and in pain.

  • Hi Janene.  I had a tumour removed from my breast and also several lymph nodes taken out, and for a couple of weeks I had quite a lot of pain where the lymph nodes were, however, eventually it eased off.  If your pain is still bad, I would definitely mention it to them.  Good luck, Violet, x

  • Hi Janene, sorry I shouldn't have answered your question, I have just noticed it was meant for the nurses, my apologies, Violet, x

  • Hello Violet,

It's okay, not to worry. Mine was took out in May and was okay really after it all but now it's all started to really hurt again. I'm starting radiotherapy tomorrow so will ask the team when I get there. Im wondering if its the fluid build up that the oncologist said was there. I just wish it would go away. Thank you for answering Violet, any kind of advice or reassurance is appreciated.

    Hope you're getting on okay.

    Take care

    Love Janene x

  • Hello Janene, and thank you for posting.

I'm so sorry you are having these problems with pain since your surgery. As violet girl has said it can take a while for things to calm down after, and everyone is different in how they recover. Sometimes nerves in your armpit can play up for a while after where they've been damaged,  this can show itself in these kinds of pains. It would be good to mention this all to your breast care nurse or when you go into start radiotherapy today as they may be able to talk through some painkillers for you to take.

Take care Janene and I hope today goes well. If you want to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline the number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040, and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Sarah.

  • Thank you replying to me Sarah, I really appreciate it. I have an appointment tomorrow with my care nurse so hopefully all will be okay and will put my mind at ease. Just very scary times when you don't know what's what :)

    Thank you so much

    Janene
