Gynaecologist oncologist appointment

Hi there,

just looking for some reassurance if anyone has experienced this before?

I had a blood test with a raised CA125 of 118. This also happened to me in 2020 when my CA125 was at 43.  I had an ultrasound and internal scan yesterday and I haven't heard anything yet about the results. I had an automated letter texted to me yesterday to say an appt has been made for the gynaecologist oncologist for 13th July.  This is 2.5 weeks away! Should I be worried , is this normal practice ? Is this just a further investigation or do I have cancer? Would appreciate any advice

  • Hello there and thanks for getting in touch

I am sorry to hear you are currently undergoing some tests for symptoms and understandably this must be a worry for you.

I'm afraid even if someone has been through something that sounds similar to you the cause could be different so it isn't always easy to compare stories.

We don't know what the ultrasound scan has showed but from what you have said you can only assume that probably something abnormal or suspicious has been highlighted that needs further looking into.

Usually when someone has a raised ca125 level they will carry out an ultrasound and depending on the features seen on any ovarian cyst or mass found they will calculate a risk of malignancy (RMI) score using the ca125, ultrasound and menopause status of the patient.

At your appointment the consultant will discuss the results with you and talk through any further tests such as another type of scan they may also wish to carry out and what will happen next.

I hope you will be okay but do get back if you need to or have further questions. You are also welcome to call on 0808 800 4040 if you prefer to talk over the phone, we're here Monday-Friday 9-5.

    Wishing you all the best

    Naomi
