Radiotherapy

Hi

This might be a daft question but I have my radiotherapy planning appointment next Tuesday. I have vulva cancer which spread to my lymph nodes. I have had a total vulvectomy and all of my groin lymph nodes removed on both sides. Will I need to shave before the appointment next week? I'm thinking particularly of the vulva area.

Thanks in advance.

  • Hello and thanks for your post

I don't think it will be necessary for you to shave before your radiotherapy treatment. But it's always best to check with the radiotherapy department at the hospital to be sure.

Radiotherapy can cause hair loss around the vulval area (pubic hair). It may grow back, but it might look different, for example it may be thinner, and sometimes it does not grow back at all.

I hope your treatment goes well.
