Pain returned two years after breast construction

I was diagnosed with dcis in 2020 resulting in mesectomy and reconstruction. They found invasive micrometatis in my first lymph node but luckily it hadn't spread so it went in the bin. I'm having hormone treatment now because it was hormone positive. A couple of nights ago I was getting off to sleep and felt a pain in the same breast. The reason I found the main lump in 2020 was because of the same pain I felt again a couple of nights ago. The pain used to come and go when I had it before it was a sharp burning sort of feeling. When the doctor asked me how I noticed the lump I told him it was to do with the pain but he said the cancer shouldn't have caused any pain. I haven't had the feeling since that night now but I'm really worried. I have a silicone implant and have felt all around the edges and under as much as I can and can't feel anything wrong but obviously it's impossible to check really . I'm worried about what to do. I'm often thinking something is wrong with me though.

  • Hello Rach80 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about the pain and worry you have.

It is right to say that breast cancer and DCIS does not usually cause pain.  However if you have not had this checked with your breast team doctor or breast cancer nurse I think you should because I wonder if this is related to your breast reconstruction.

I hope you are able to talk a with a member of your breast care team about this.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
