Can still see mole after full excision?

Hi there,

I don't know if I'm being a bit ridiculous or not so trying to get some perspective. I had my mole fully removed last week (awaiting biopsy results now), but today when I checked the scar which is still healing with stitches, it looks like there's still a much smaller part of the mole still there... maybe, or it might be a scab forming, it's hard to tell right now.

Is it possible that either the mole has regrown that quick (within a week) or that she couldn't remove all of it because it's turned invasive - hence maybe what I'm seeing is parts of the mole still left in the deeper layers of skin? Really what I want to know is whether this is a concerning sign that I should take to the consultant / GP. Would they potentially need to remove it again?

To confirm, I had a full excision where they remove the mole completely. I didn't ask the nurse after if she managed to remove the full mole, but now I wish I had checked!

I'm hoping it's just the scab and it goes away soon. This whole thing has made me such an anxious mess.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

If you have stitches, then they have removed the mole. They do not regrow in less than a week, and you would not have only part of the mole removed.

Try not to over think things and speculate. You have a scab which needs to heal, and this will probably take a couple of weeks. So, don't disturb the area of the wound.

Do keep yourself busy and occupied whilst you wait for the results.

    Best wishes,

    Vanda
