Freaked myself out breast lump?

Hello

I have awful health anxiety as it is...here goes...so I am a regular gym goer and lift fairly heavy weights etc...I also have the Mirena Coil which I've had for a year now.. I still get very light periods along with other PMS symptoms. So I am "on a very light period" at the moment I thought I would check my breasts in the shower and I'm not sure if I can now feel something in my left breast....it feels kind of oval and is movable. But now I feel physically sick and convinced myself it's breast cancer......my partner regularly does check my boobs and so do I. I also went for a breast augmentation a few months ago and the surgeons did checky breats then and didn't day anything. But now I can feel "something different" and it's making me really really anxious and worry and now I've completely sent myself crazy with worry. I keep checking it and checking it which is now making it sore. Could it just be hormonal? I'm so scared. I am 42, very fit other wise :0(

Any advice welcome

  • No one can tell you. Most changes aren't cancer, but only an in person examination can give you the answer you seek. Never wait and see imo. Get told it's nothing, and move on with your life. That anxiety isn't going to go away.

I'm the partner of someone with breast cancer, and believe me when i say, your partner won't be checking your boobs in the correct manner. Unless of course, he knows your breast tissue etc extend to under your arm, and off to the side. I thought i was doing a grand job over the years, turns out I only focused on the middle and more prominent part, as most guys do.

Yeah, get it checked, and don't ignore it. No one will think you're wasting their time. They want to tell people it's nothing. They don't want to be sending people off to hospital.

  • Hello just wanted to say thankyou for your reply. How is your partner doing? I am hoping to speak to my GP tomorrow.

  • Waiting for the GP to call me this morning.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am sorry to hear that feeling something different in your breasts is worrying you but try not to over think too much for now.

Breasts go through lots of changes through a woman's lifetime and most of them are very normal and harmless. Hormones and hormonal levels and changes is the most common reason for these changes including lumpier sore breasts just before a period.

Breast cysts and a build up of fatty tissue called fibroadenomas are also very common causes of breast lumps and these also can be more easily felt or become more uncomfortable around a period and then often will settle down.

You have done the right thing by arranging to see your GP. They can assess you and if needed refer you to the breast unit just to be on the safe side. Do bear in mind that most people who are seen in a breast clinic won't have breast cancer.

Easier said than done but try and put this to the back of your mind whilst you are waiting and keep yourself occupied with other things as this really can help.

I hope you know more soon and that everything will be okay.

    Take care

    Naomi
