Borderline Stool sample ?

Hi, I experience chronic pain In my top left side every day and im always constipated, unless I take laxative sachets.
I've now received information for my doctors receptionist that my  stool samples were boarder line and they want to do another test.. what does this mean??
I've also just had an all clear sigmoidoscopy test.
TIA

  • Hello Tia and thank you for your post,

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms.

A borderline result means that your test results sit between being normal and abnormal, so to be sure you are asked to repeat the test. Remember that having a borderline or positive (abnormal ) test result still does not mean that you necessarily have cancer.  It is also reassuring that your sigmoidoscopy result was fine.

I do think that it would be good to follow the advice of your GP.

Please try not to worry and I hope you can sort out being constipated.  The NHS has some good advice about what to about it, you can see it on their website here

    Take care,

    Caroline

  • I have just had results of my bowl cancer tests and it is on border line what does that mean

  • Hello Chrissybabes, and thank you for posting.

As you will see from my colleague Caroline's reply to Jo a borderline stool samples means that your test results sit between being normal and abnormal. To be sure you may be asked to repeat the test.

Remember that having a borderline or positive (abnormal ) test result still does not mean that you necessarily have cancer.

    Take care,

    Sarah.
