NeuroEndocrine Tumour

Hello.

I got diagnosed with a NeuroEndocrine tumor 2 weeks ago after having really severe symptoms for 16 months, including diarrhea that has got a lot worse.

The weird thing is tho, I've gone from extreme diarrhea 20+ trips to the toilet to now being unable to poo in the last 5 days and I'm in a lot of pain when I eat, which also started 5 days ago. I can't work out if I should be concerned. The pain is worse and suddenly not being able to poo is such an odd feeling when you've literally been having accidents before.

My tumor is in the small intestine. GP told me to wait for the hospital to come up with a plan of exactly what they are going to do.

Google isn't coming up with much regarding constipation. I'm taking no new / different medication.

what do you think I should do? I'm extremely swollen as well.

  • Hello and thanks for posting,

I am sorry to learn that you have just been diagnosed with a neuro endocrine tumour (NET).

Certainly NETs can be unpredictable symptom wise, and depending on how active it is at secreting hormones at any given time, can affect the type and severity of symptoms. Hopefully when you speak with the NET specialist team, they can advise about this, and the use of drugs that will help manage the disease better.

In the meantime, you do need to sort out this current constipation. So, do ring your GP, and ask to speak with them promptly. They can prescribe sachets, such as Movicol, which help with severe constipation. It is important that this is sorted out, as in some cases, it can lead to a partial blockage of the bowel.

Your GP may want to examine you, sometimes they order an abdominal x ray too if needed.

I hope this helps, and you manage to be more comfortable soon,

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
