Ulcer biopsy

I have an ulcer on my lip that has not healed so my dentist referred me to hospital where they did a biopsy. The local anaesthetic injections were like being stung by a wasp over and over again and I cried like a baby! That was 20 days ago and I've still not had the results. I was told I would hear in a couple of weeks. I have somehow got to pluck up the courage to phone and chase them. I'm scared.

  • Hello AnnieGlen,

Thanks for posting. I am sorry to hear about the biopsy and understand you feeling apprehensive about what it could show.

Waiting for results is horrible, but then there is the 'no news is good news' factor so it is tempting to want to stay in limbo.  I think most people worry and fear what might be coming, but not finding out doesn't usually help with these feelings - they tend to worsen over time.  People often say they feel better for knowing whatever the results show.

Bear in mind that biopsies can rule cancer out as well as diagnose it. But take it one step at a time for now.

Give us a ring if you want to talk anything over on Freephone 0808 800 4040,  the lines are open weekdays 9-5.

    Best wishes,

    Julia

  • Thank you for your reply, I plucked up the courage to phone the oral surgery dept and my results aren't back yet. I was told it's not unusual to be waiting 3 or more weeks for results.
