Vaginal bleeding after a virtual colonoscopy

Hi, due to a family history of bowel cancer I have today had a virtual colonoscopy. I now have vaginal bleeding and wondered if this is normal after this procedure? I am 55, post menopausal, my last period was 4 years ago,

  • Hello and thanks for your post

It isn't normal to experience vaginal bleeding following a virtual colonoscopy. There can be many causes of post menopausal bleeding which you can read about on the NHS website by clicking here.

Probably, the best thing to do is to make an appointment to see your doctor. They will be able to assess you and decide if you need to go for any further tests. Although this can seem frightening, in most cases symptoms will be caused by something else other than cancer. But it is always sensible to get any problems you have checked out just to be on the safe side.

If we can help in any other way please do contact us again. If you would prefer to speak to one of the nurses directly, you can telephone us on 0808 800 4040. We are here from Monday to Friday, 9am-5pm.

    Kind Regards,
