Worried

Hi

I am a 65 year old female.    About 11 months ago I had a pain in my left thigh and swelling at the top of thigh were bone connects.  My GP diagnosed by phone that this was Meralgia Paresthetica.  It has never went away.  A few months later I started getting pain in my lower back.  I still was not examined and was told by my GP I would be referred to a physiotherapist which  could take a long time to get an appointment.

Fast forward to a few months ago.  I phoned my GP about the constant lower back pain and also pain in right leg when standing. Also pain in my bone under left breast.  Pain that feels like all around my torso.

She agreed to see me and examined me.  She arranged ultra scan of my liver kidneys and sides.  It came back clear.  She also done various blood and urine tests including a CA125.   They were all clear.  After I insisted she said she would arrange for x rays to be taken of my lower back.  I have since found out she referred me as a non emergency.

I am still in the same pain , losing weight have little appetite and constantly tired all the time.

Although I have told them this they do not seem concerned and said to wait for the xray,  which could take months yet as its a non emergency.

I am feeling very ill and afraid.  However I do not want to phone my gp practice again incase they start considering me a nuisance

Writing in the hope you have any advice.

Thank you.

  • Hello Joanne2020 and thank you for your post.

I am sorry to hear about your symptoms and I can appreciate your concerns.

It is reassuring to know that so far no test result has come back with a worrying diagnosis, this is good news. However, I realise that now waiting for your x-rays of your back to be done is a concern.  If there was a concern from your doctor that you could have cancer then this would have been done as a urgent referral. However, even with a non-urgent referral you hopefully will not be waiting too long.

I think the best thing to do now is to remember that while you are waiting if your symptoms get worse that you let the GP know as this might mean you have them done sooner.

Please get back to us if you need any more information or support.  You may find it helpful to talk things through with one of the nurses on our helpline.  The number to call is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and the lines are open from 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.

    Take care,

    Caroline
