Persistant sore throat

hello I have been suffering from a persistant sore throat for over a year now. the doctors don't know what to do anymore and can't figure it out. I've been on antibiotics and all sorts of other medications but nothing helps. I have been on oxycodone 5mg and ibuprofen 400mg since August and it is destroying my body. I don't know what to do anymore and it's getting worse by the day. I feel really helpless. I can't even eat and drink normally anymore without experiencing a lot of pain. I hope someone here can point me in the right direction.

I am only 21 years old.

it started March 2021 and slowly but surely got worse and worse. I was later in june diagnosed with CML (chronic myeloid leukemia). I am being treated with IMATINIB and thats working really well. I don't think it's related but you never know and the doctors don't dare say it.

I have had an MRI and a stomach and esophagus examination and everything is normal on that. (As it looks in a healthy person.)

please help me because i don't know if i can handle this for much longer. I am losing everything I love. my girlfriend has left me and i'm losing my whole social life too. I just want to get out there again. I want to go back to work. I want to party with friends again. i want my life back.

I am getting more and more depressed.  my sore throat is taking over my life.

I hope there is someone who can help me. in fact I pray that there is someone who can help me!

i read a post about someone who had a sortlike issue. Nothing to see in the throat. This guy had a Vitamine D deficient. My vitamine D was checked way back in 2021 when the pain slowly started. It was 43 at that time. I called my doctor for a complete vitamine and mineral check. For now im taking vitamine D and C pills. But this is just a shot in the dark.

  • Hello there and thanks for posting

I am so sorry to hear about these ongoing symptoms that are clearly affecting your every day life in so many different ways.

Unfortunately we are not doctors here and cannot diagnose or say what the matter is. It seems like the doctors have arranged  many different treatments and tests with little success as to what the problem is and that of course must be so frustrating for you.

The sore throat could possibly be linked to a side effect from the Imatinib you are taking for CML and prior to being diagnosed could have been a symptom of CML itself.

I really would suggest speaking to both your GP and specialist doctor or nurse so they can reassess you and get you the support you need, as well as thinking outside the box as to where else they may be able to refer you next.

If you haven't already it may be worth dropping a line to CML support here and blood cancer Uk here to see if they can give you any advice or support as well.

Do let your doctor know about how all of this is making you feel low at the moment so they can help you.  I also hope you have some family and friends around to who you can also share with.

Our helpline is 0808 800 4040 if you ever want to talk and we're here Monday-Friday 9-5.

I really do hope you are able to get some answers and solutions soon and wish you all the best.

Take care and look after yourself

    Naomi
