Hi all, I am due to have an appointment over the phone with a consultant after my gp referral. My gp thinks I should have a colonoscopy and I'm absolutely terrified. I don't want sedation has anyone else had it done without? Thanks

Hello Jojo07 and thanks for posting,
I am not sure if anyone else will come along and post, but I think the majority of people who have a colonoscopy have some sedation to help them relax and make the procedure more comfortable.
The aim of a colonoscopy is to be able to examine inside the full length of the of the bowel properly. If someone doesn't have sedation there is a chance that they may find the procedure too uncomfortable to complete. Having said that it can sometimes be preformed without sedation, but I think the decision not to use it would be up to the doctors involved so do ask the consultant and see what they say.
I hope the appointment goes well.
Give us a call if you want to talk anything over. Our number is Freephone 0808 800 4040 and we are here 9am till 5pm Monday to Friday.
